The Inverness Courier

At The Inverness Courier, we take immense pride in our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive newsroom. We firmly believe that a vibrant news organisation should reflect its community. The Inverness Courier's parent company, Highland News & Media, has a female-heavy leadership team, and we employ journalists from aged 17 to 72.

We create inclusive spaces for our readers through the likes of our LGBTQ+ newsletter, our Menopause & Me campaign, and work we have done surrounding addiction recovery. These are authentic spaces because they were started by members of staff who have lived through these experiences. As a company, it's a priority for us to not only support our team, but to help them advocate for themselves and others. We find that outwardly showcasing our commitment to amplify underserved voices directly impacts our ability to hire a diverse team. We recently confirmed an intensive two day leadership training programme for 8 staff members across the business, with a broad range of seniority, ages, genders, and backgrounds. Our goal is to ensure that there are no barriers to career progression within the company.

Working parents are also valued and this is reflected in our leadership team. We have part-time and flexible roles for those with family commitments and offer a hybrid home/office working pattern. We understand the value of having people on our team who not only bring unique perspectives but also personally care about underserved communities. It is through these empathetic individuals that we can better understand important issues and inform our readers.
